BIOGRAPHY
With his vision and passion for music. singer/songwriter/guitarist Danny Mortimer has been grabbing attention amongst gig-goers and radio listeners alike since 2006.
Based in Elgin in Moray, Danny has played in many bands over the years before finally stepping up to the microphone as the lead singer/songwriter in Alternative rock band, Christie Row.
Danny then decided to move forward as a solo act taking influence from one of his idols, Jim Adkins (Jimmy Eat World) and in September 2016 released ‘Out of the Blue’. The first single ‘Stay with Me’, and accompanying video received high praise and airplay in the UK, Europe and Australia. Live radio sessions, interviews and live performances followed and the follow-up single ‘Waiting’ went down a storm and hit the November 2016 Scottish New Music Charts.
2017 saw Danny playing numerous gigs and festivals including the popular Whisky Stage at Speyfest and Main Stage appearances at Wolfstock (in Banff) and NXNE (in Aberdeenshire). ‘The Best In Everything’ was released as a free download along with a music video, and once again Danny made it into the Scottish New Music Chart proving he was well and truly making waves.
Late 2017 saw Danny making it through to the final round of Soundwaves Music Competition at the 02 ABC in Glasgow. His determination was rewarded and he was invited to play the very stage that only a few years previous had seen his guitar hero, Richie Sambora, play on.
2018 saw the release of the album ‘Anything but Silent’ grittier/heavier than its predecessor ‘Out of the Blue’. Adding more strings to his bow, Danny wrote/self produced/engineered the album as well as organised the huge and extremely well received "Anything But Silent" Tour, with 19 live dates over 6 months all over Scotland.
The double sided single of "Just Like Before/Another Light" was released on August 14th 2020, with Producer duties handled by Alan Greer of "In Time Records" showcasing two sides of Danny's musical style, one loud song and one quiet. It received rave reviews on both National and Worldwide Radio.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, Danny recorded a rendition of the David Bowie Classic "Heroes" and created a music video utilizing footage of how people were coping during Lockdown. The song and video gained the attention from BBC Scotland and soon resulted in an interview on TV about the track, and the experiences of being a musician during the pandemic.
In 2021, Danny revealed what goes on behind the studio doors in his "Through The Sound" documentary series. He revealed the stories behind his releases, his music, and his growth as a singer/songwriter. He also re-released two songs from his back catalogue on the double sided single, "Opener/Waiting" (The 2021 Remix). Both tracks were greatly received, including charting in Australia and received high praise from both Jim Gellatly (Amazing Radio), Tom Russell (The Godfather Of Rock) Eddy Temple-Morris (Virgin Radio DJ) as well as being featured on BBC Introducing.
He is currently working on his new album, entitled "Songs From The Cutting Room Floor" with Phil Wiles of PB Audio. It will consist of songs from his back catalogue, re-recorded and re-imagined, as well as some songs that have never seen the light of day. In 2022, he was invited to play multiple performances at the famous P&J Live in Aberdeen, one of which was ahead of headlining act George Ezra.
In early 2023, Danny was invited to be part of "The Conversation: I Am Me", a group of local musicians who recorded a track to raise awareness for Mens' Mental Health and played a huge charity concert at Elgin Town Hall. Between ticket sales of the the Live Concert, profits from streams and downloads, the group raised £2,200 with all proceeds donated to local charity, Mikeysline.
New album "Songs From The Cutting Room Floor" was released on August 19th 2023 with a live in store appearance at HMV Inverness, receiving high praise from Fans and critics alike.

REVIEWS (LIVE, STUDIO RECORDING AND MEDIA REVIEWS)
"After a scuzzy hard-rock riff as a prelude, Opener unravels as a lyrically tender Trans-Atlantic time capsule to the 90's with hints of both Paul Draper and early FNM Mike Patton in the vocals that pour plenty of soul into the otherwise strident and emotionally-charged track". ~ Review by Amelia Vandergast of A&R Factory Review on "Opener" - August 2021
"I think its one thing being a good vocalist, but being a great Lead Guitarist over that, is something that is always going to work in your favour." ~ Ryan Borthwick , radio presenter on Clyde 1, after Danny Mortimer's performance at the O2 ABC Glasgow, February 2018.
"Excellent performance, two songs that I could easily hear on the radio. Main thing that caught me was the Songwriting. And Danny's work moving about on stage was excellent. I always think it must be difficult, to play guitar, playing lead stuff like that and moving about so much, so well done" - Tom Russell "The Godfather of Rock", after Danny Mortimer's performance at the O2 ABC Glasgow, February 2018.
"An Indie Rocker who likes to get the vibe alive and he rocks in the door here with his new Single". ~ A&R Factory review on "Just Like Before/Another Light" August 2020
"Artists who consistently reinvent themselves typically yield a longer shelf-life. David Bowie, Madonna and Sir Paul McCartney are a few artists who used reinvention to stay relevant and prolong their careers. Add Scotsman Danny Mortimer Music to that list. After a decade in live music, creating great songs for gig-goers and radio listeners to enjoy, Danny has taken the unusual step to reinvent his sound early in his career, but to great effect!" ~ The Max Radio, September 2021
"Danny Mortimer's Debut EP "Out Of The Blue' is a fresh collection of downright honest music. He lays it all out there, singing about real things that apply to us all in everyday life, with an emphasis on relationships. What's more, he delivers this in a way that makes you want to listen to it. The EP is extremely upbeat, it'll put a smile on your face and a swing in your step. Its the sort of music that makes those of us who only listen to music, wish we'd learned how to make it. I could go on but, you get the idea. Even on your worst day, I dare you to listen to this EP and not crack a smile, even if only for a second." ~ Review by LJ at Alternative Promotions, April 2016.
"An Excellent Release - Two very different songs showcasing a serious amount of Artistic Breadth" ~ Eddie Stuart, KCR 107.7 FM on "Just Like Before/Another Light", August 2020
"Very strong tracks" ~ Jim Gellatly, Amazing Radio on "Just Like Before/Another Light", August 2020.
"This guy is as close to human prozac as you can get!" ~ Alternative Promotions, September 2018
"A good voice and the chorus is pretty anthemic" ~ Eddy Temple-Morris, Virgin Radio DJ on listening to "Opener" September, 2021
